Ah, the cutting-edge, woke library.
In case you are unaware, the Petoskey District Library Board of Trustees' include a "land acknowledgement" (highlighted in blue) on their meeting agenda.
We prefer our public meetings to begin with an old-fashioned Pledge of Allegiance, because, in part, we are fans of that unifying "one nation under God" section. And we don't view ourselves as either colonizers or squatters (as do the trustees, apparently), but as responsible Americans who are subsidizing the library's questionable agenda whether we like it or not. In fact, we even think we own a piece of the land, since the library belongs to "we, the people."
Please let the library's director and trustees (respectfully) know what you think of the 'acknowledgement.'
Th old fashioned pledge Eisenhower added "one nation under God" in 1954? Not the original that made no religious reference from 1892? It's very McCarthyism red scare. Which is funny because Bellemy, who wrote the Pledge of Allegiance, was a socialist! The idea of a "pledge of allegiance" is very commie and fascist ideal. We even used to salute like the Nazis when reciting the Pledge! Roosevelt wisely suggested the hand over the heart...
It would be more American, by our founding ideals, that the government pledge allegiance to the people and not the other way around, as it had been done in European monarchies and the rest of the world forever prior to the US existence.
It is "woke",…
