League of [Liberal] Women Voters
So you know, The League of Women Voters has an active northern lower Michigan unit.
The original founders (pictured in 1920) wanted to establish a group to encourage women's suffrage.
Today the League welcomes men and champions DEI. It promotes "informed and active participation in government" and seeks to increase "understanding of major public policy issues." In a nutshell: It's a non-partisan organization that does not endorse candidates.
Not so fast. The LWV's bent is partisan left-wing. The Emmet County group, for instance, sponsored a solar tour; is hawking a gun violence' forum; opposed a set of bills passed by the MI Senate that would have tightened election ID requirements; and promoted a bombastic book: "Jesus and John Wayne: How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation." 'Nuf said.
