The Emmet County Republican Party’s (ECRP) e-newsletter of July 12, 2024 promoted a sunset cruise fundraiser aimed at enriching the local coffers of the Salvation Army (flyer pictured).
Charitable giving - preferably that which is done quietly and anonymously - is a worthy endeavor. But ERG is puzzled that a political group (whose mission is to help “conservative” candidates win elections) would get out of its lane and aid a faith-based charity that already receives generous donations from connected community groups like the Rotary Club and the Petoskey Harbor Springs Area Foundation.
Further, the international Salvation Army, historically known for helping the destitute and for its red kettles and bell ringers, is not your great-great-grandfather’s organization. It not only has a massive annual revenue, it has taken a troubling turn for the WOKE in recent years.
The Daily Mail of London reported that unvetted Biden migrants were being flown by the Salvation Army to New York City from California with FEMA taxpayer provisions. The publication added that “the charity has helped schedule shelter and court appearances for migrants once they are in New York.”
Why no compassion for the maxed-out residents of the Big Apple, whose city services are overwhelmed meeting the needs of so-called asylees? And why incentivize the evils associated with human trafficking?
The Salvation Army has also come under fire for aggressively promoting “diversity.” The non-profit, for instance, published a study guide on racism that singles out the shortcomings of only one group of people: “Racism can be so entrenched … [like] well intentioned Sunday School curriculum that only uses white photography and imagery.” This is the sort of divisive drivel that Critical Race Theory/DEI grifter Robin DiAngelo would craft.
Frankly, concerned Americans should be withholding contributions from the Salvation Army until National Advisory Board members - a powerful group of movers and shakers - explains these un-Christian decisions.
And if the ECRP really wants to ‘make a difference,’ they can start by doing a better job of vetting Republican candidates and holding them accountable if they get elected. We need leaders in government who don’t view it as a charity and endlessly spend taxpayer dollars for every feel-good project, as we need leaders running NGOs who don’t take unconstitutional handouts from the State.
