You may have noticed that panhandlers have been 'working it' in Emmet County along US 131, and it's very concerning and sad to see children involved. The Petoskey Public Safety Dept. says that SCOTUS has decreed that solicitation is protected speech under the First Amendment, but it can't be done in the traffic median.
PPSD also says that they reach out to these out-of-towners and alert them of social services and offers of employment. But the panhandlers are not interested. They just want the cash.
ERG's advice: Don't give $$ to these adult grifters.
